Children
We help children with intellectual and developmental disabilities build foundational skills through early intervention, education and therapeutic support — setting the stage for lifelong growth.
New Perceptions provides services to children with developmental disabilities from birth to age three. Two hundred ten (210) children participate annually in physical, occupational, and/or speech therapy to prepare them for success in school.
Therapy
Speech and occupational therapy are offered to children under the age of three in their homes through New Perceptions' Home-based Early Intervention Program. Referrals are received through Kentucky's First Steps program (click here for more information).
- Occupational Therapy helps small muscle movement (for example, writing, using scissors), sensory integration (sensitivity to touch, sound, light, food), and feeding disorders.
- Speech Therapy helps develop early language skills and feeding disorders.
Emphasis is placed on teaching parents/caregivers the skills and knowledge needed to facilitate their child's growth and development, with activities occurring during the child's daily routine.
