Families and caregivers don't navigate this alone. We provide guidance, resources and ongoing support so the people closest to our participants feel equipped every step of the way.
Referral Processes
From early childhood through adulthood, New Perceptions walks alongside individuals and the families who support them.
Children Ages 0-3
If you believe your child has a developmental delay, you do not have to wait for a physician's referral for services. Every child in Kentucky from the ages 0-3 with developmental delays is eligible for early intervention services through First Steps.

A phone survey will determine where your child is with their developmental milestones and may lead to a home visit from a First Steps staff person for a more extensive evaluation. Based on your child's diagnosis, you may be assigned a case manager and therapists as needed. Therapy sessions are held in your home and are available at multiple days/times depending on your child's needs. The cost for these services is very low and is determined on a sliding scale based on your income level.
School-Aged Children
School-aged children are served by the public school system for their needs during the school year. Several links to websites may be found in Resources for Caregivers. Please call Sarah Kring Adult Services Director, at (859) 344-9322, ext. 13 for information about our referral process.
Adults
Our programs help adults gain real job skills, find meaningful employment and build independence through training, coaching and hands-on experience in the community.
Supported Employment:
Adults who would like to participate in the Supported Employment program should contact the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) at (859) 371-9450 to be connected with a counselor near their home. The counselor will determine eligibility and, if New Perceptions is selected, OVR will send a referral packet to our Supported Employment program.
There is no cost to the individual or family/caregiver for this service.
Work Center:
For students within two years of graduating, the High School Transition Panel (New Perceptions, BAWAC, NorthKey, Redwood, The Point, Tri-Generations, Vocational Rehabilitation) visits schools; ask your Special Education teacher, or contact Sarah Kring, Adult Services Director, at (859) 344-9322, ext. 13.
For individuals beyond school-age, contact NorthKey's access line at (859) 331-3292 to begin the process. Applicants are placed on a waiting list for adult day services in Northern Kentucky, which can take months to years depending on the level of support needed.
There is no cost to the individual or family/caregiver for these services.

Improvement Measures
New Perceptions is an Agency Partner of the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, and as such, works to reach the United Way's Bold Goals to better the quality of life for our region. The two Bold Goal areas that we work towards are Income and Education. United Way is working to improve the financial stability of individuals and families, and the quality of early learning experiences for low-income children. New Perceptions supports these efforts through our Adult Day Training – Employment, Supported Employment, and Infants and Children with Developmental Disabilities School Readiness programs.
